Blessing of the GROTTO

For more than twenty years, there has been a desire to have a grotto in the Seminary. Various administrations of the Seminary tried in different ways to realize the dream. The purpose for having the grotto of our Lady in the Seminary premises was two fold: First the Blessed Virgin Mary is the patron of the Congregation of the Holy Ghost Fathers. Second, Virgin Mary is called queen of the apostles. She was praying with apostles while waiting for the coming of the Holy Spirit. So the presence of the grotto in the Seminary symbolizes such double presence in the life of the seminarians who are preparing to became apostles/disciples of Jesus.

Through the donations of different friends from America, Scotland, Italy and Tanzania finally the long term dream was realized.

On the 8thSeptember 2010, on the occasion of the nativity of Our Lady, the grotto and the statue were blessed during the Eucharistic celebration. The ceremony was led by the councilor of formation of the Spiritan Province of Tanzania Rev. Fr. Amandus Kapele, C.S.Sp., assisted by the formators team of the Spiritan community at Spiritan Missionary Seminary (SMS). The ceremony was colorful and joyful.

We thank each and everyone who contributed in one way or another in the realization of our long time dream.
